Gymnopedie #1 – Eric Satie, Duet for Vibraphone & Trombone

Satie’s Gymnopedies are a collection of 3 pieces by Eric Satie for solo piano. Widely considered by many scholars to be a precursor to modern ambient music, the Gymnopedies are simple, serene, and use repetition as a prominent feature.
This arrangement of the first movement of the collection, written for vibraphone and trombone, is a great stepping stone piece for a trombonist to learn to develop the breath control necessary to play soft dynamics with a great tone in extended phrases. The vibraphone part provides the chordal accompaniment while participating in the melodic interplay.
